I met again with StumbleUpon tonight in SF. They showed me a preview of something very cool, very simple and neat. You'll see it next week. Needless to say, I think it's something that shows the power of personalization and rich media in a slick interface. That's all I can say on it. Until next week. You'll see... next week.
I'm a big fan of this company and product. If you haven't tried it, go to stumbleupon.com, sign up. Add me as a friend - williammorris - too.
Why do I like it? Well:
- Discovery of new sites and content is so good. I have found lots of unique sites using this product... many that I just would not find with Google. Try it. Search for something on Google, then try the same on Stumble. You'll see what I mean.
- Sharing sites is easy.... it has a nice share feature in the toolbar... simple again, but very good.
- Rich "Long Tail" content. This company has the long on long tail. It has subjects from needlework to hedgehogs to cats to photography. It has deep taxonomy of ratings on a wide range of this content.
- Simple "thumbs up" "thumbs down" to recommend. So simple, no wonder it's #1!
- And finally - it has a deep community. People spend hours talking to each other, or on the forums... I have seen some rich blogs, full of content on this site I really am impressed by the dedication of this community.
In short, it's a great product. Check it out, and spread the news if you agree.
(And no, I do not own any stock in this!)

The stumbleupon page has a big "sign up now" button which takes me to a Firefox extensions install page. I install the extension.
Now what?
If I go back to stumbleupon.com, it just shows me the big "sign up now" button again.
I can't find anything in the Firefox chrome.
What's going on? How *should* it work?
Is it not there at all?
I found a clue by searching on their site for "firefox install problem" or some such.
I'm not sure if this is always the case, or some glitch I ran into for some reason.
They need a bit more guidance on their site's "install" page. If you hadn't recommended it, I just would have uninstalled it and got on with my life.
Haven't really tried it out, yet. Too busy.
