Discover more content with Magnet

For those who have not used Magnet (and I must say where have you been? :-) ), the team has been working on taking Magnet with you, where ever you go.

Magnet is a number of things, but at the heart of it is a way for you to discover new content (blogs,  photos, videos) about the subjects or topics that matter to you.  Magnet does the heavy lifting - going across the web, through millions of webpages, and bringing you part of that - based on what you like.  Sounds hard?  Well, it is hard to do and the engineers behind magnet have been working long nights to pull this off.   But for you, it's is easy to start using it, and to discover content on subjects you like.

Magnet doesn't ask you to list what you are interested in - you can tell it if you like.  But rather than fill in forms, you start exploring. You can click on photos, and as you do this, Magnet slowly starts to determine what you are interested in.   You can also do a search (e.g. search for Britney Spears).  As you use Magnet, it will understand what you like, and present recommendations based on this.

You can use Magnet in a number of ways :

1) It's part of myAOL,  AOL's startpage.
2) It's part of HP's default homepage in the US. If you have an HP machine, Magnet is part of your default home page.
3) Or if you use iGoogle, you can access Magnet from that page.

I use Magnet in a number of ways.  It knows I like cats, for example.  And boy do I get a lot of interesting content on cats using Magnet :-)

Give it a try and start discovering content on subjects you like, that you thought didn't exist.

Go try Magnet now.

I don't know if you're the right person but several of us have been requesting more moods in our journals by leaving comments in Magic Smoke for a year now.  The last time a roster change was done, I believe it was Joseph who told me I should have requested that before the last change cuz it would have been easy.  I've been requesting it for over a year now.  Can you look into that please?  Thank you.

In Memory: Leo Pot

Today is one of those days that feels "empty" or "numb".    I attended a funeral for Leo Pot, who died on July 4th from Cancer.     Such a nice man, very successful with his businesses, and a great family.  Funny, sharp, witty.   He shared a glass of wine or two with me, and gave me thoughts on life after leaving my last job.    More important, he has a wonderful family.    It's hard seeing his 3 young daughters at the funeral, each dealing with grief.  Live each day to the fullest.  Make sure you get the most out of what you do, and spend time with people you care about. Rest in peace, Leo.   "On July 4, 2008 Leonardus Leo Josephus Pot, loving father and doting husband, left his earthly existence peacefully, at home, in the company of his family. Born in the fall of 1956 in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands to Martin and Joanne Pot, he would go on to complete a Bachelor's deg...

AOLers : Don't let people say silly things about your company

Don't let people say silly things about your company Yes I mean it. Your company. I read the blogosphere,  and often see articles on some feature or product that has been launched.   Then I follow the comments.   You get the normal AOL bashing,  some people who like it, some people who bash and have never used the product being reviewed.  All the normal stuff. But Frank Gruber set an example for me last year.  When he spots these comments, he follows up with a comment and (if possible) contacts the person who wrote the it. Often the comments don't have contact info or use real names.  But if they do, Frank will email them as follow up.  And the response is normally good.      If Frank can do it (as busy as he is), so can we all do it. The latest blog that struck me was this article " Yes, People Still Use AOL " on Silicon Alley Insider.  The first comment was negative, the third was negative.   ...

Pizza - with egg on it? A Paris delight!

Tonight at a late night snack after lots of walking, pizza... And boy did it taste good. I have never had pizza with egg on it, until in Paris. But though it looked a bit odd, it tasted yummy. What's on your pizza? Tags: pizza , paris , france
